Anti-Inflammatory Smoothie Recipes

A lot of buzz has been created lately in the health community about foods that fight inflammation, and smoothies allow you to combine these great foods into one tasty drink!

smoothies help with inflammation of the body

While it might sound like an inherently negative thing, inflammation actually occurs naturally in the body for several reasons. The main reason for your body to trigger mild inflammation in target areas is as way of fighting off infections, cuts, bruises… the list goes on.

For example; did you know that getting a mild fever when you’re feeling under the weather is a good sign that your body is working properly? Fevers themselves are a type of inflammation- acute inflammation to be exact, and the process works in the same way as the area around a fresh cut becoming slightly pink and puffy. Without this natural process, our bodies would not be able to heal themselves!

So if inflammation is your body’s natural response to healing itself, it must be a good thing, right? Well like most things, too much of a good thing isn’t so good at all.

What Is Inflammation?

Inflammation that occurs continuously in the body is response of your immune system, and can be an indicator of overall poor health. If left untreated, this chronic inflammation can led to more serious health problems, like heart disease, arthritis, and even cancer.

Some of the most common reasons for chronic inflammation occurring in the body are due to genetics, poor exercise habits, or stress. However, the biggest culprit of chronic inflammation happens to be the one most easily controlled: our diet.

You might be surprised to find lot of the foods that we encounter on a daily basis in the aisles of the grocery store and in our pantries at home are common triggers of this type of inflammation.

How To Prevent Inflammation

Anything highly-processed and/or full of sugar is typically a contributor, as well as alcohol. What can you do about it?

Well, the first step is to cut out as many of these types of foods as possible, and then add in foods to your diet that counteracts inflammation.

Fresh fruits and vegetables contain many natural properties that act as anti-inflammatory compounds, and mixing them into smoothies is one of the best ways to add these foods into our diet.

Another great way to prevent inflammation is to drink tea. Specifically, there is a tea called Azul Tea. It contains a tree bark that has documented anti-inflammatory properties called Palo Azul.

Let’s take a look at a couple of the best anti-inflammatory foods, and some delicious smoothie recipes to try them in. Make sure you have a solid blender for smoothies before attempting to make these.

Can’t wait to get started on these recipes. I’ve had an unused Nutribullet in my cabinet for over a year now. I used it a couple of times to help my vitamin intake because I had gastric bypass 12 years ago. When the newness wore off I put it away. Today, I watched a show on how certain shakes can help with inflammation. So, I’m going to take it out, wash it off and commit to 4 weeks of using it every day. I take a lot of strong pain meds plus a host of other medications for a multitude of medical problems. From Arthritis, Fribromyala, Restless Leg Syndrome to acne at 55 years of age. I NEED to give this a try for MYSELF… to HELP MYSELF!!!
